Over 7,700 company start-ups formed in the first 4 months of 2018
Between 1st January and 30th April this year, we have seen the formation of 7,721 new Irish companies - an average of over 64 start-ups per day - a small increase on the same period in 2017 (7,625).
Professional services remains the most popular industry for Irish start-ups with just over one in five (1,633) operating in this sector - these companies would typically be associated with Accounting, Admin, Marketing, Engineering, HR, Investigation, Legal Services etc.
The finance and construction sectors were the second and third most popular industries for start-ups and accounted for 975 and 845 new companies respectively. Social & personal services and wholesale & retail round out the top 5 most popular industries with 789 and 750 start-ups between them.
Approximately 45% of start-ups in the first four months of the year are based in Dublin, with a further 10% in Cork. Galway, Kildare and Meath are next on the list and account for just under 12% of new companies between them.
