Business Barometer

Company start-ups remain strong in October with an average of 49 companies being opened per day.

840 new companies have been set up in Ireland so far this October - that represents an increase of 17% on the same period in 2012 when 716 were incorporated.

Every month this year has seen more company incorporations than the corresponding month in 2012. To date this has resulted in 1,220 more companies being formed this year - an increase of approximately 11%.

Almost one in three start-ups this month have been in the professional services sector with a further 23% choosing to operate in either wholesale & retail or social & personal services (13% and 10% respectively).

Dublin, Cork and Meath are the most popular locations for start-ups this month with two thirds of new companies setting up in one of these counties.
