Good news continues as Start-Ups remain strong in 2013

Almost 6,500 Irish company start-ups have been incorporated so far this year, this represents a rise of 8% on the same period in 2012 and is the highest figure recorded since 2008.

Since the start of this year 6,487 new Irish companies have been started up, this is up 8.2% on 2012's figure for the same period (5,995).

This year's figure is the highest total we've seen since 2008 when 7,005 company start-ups were registered.

The most popular industries for new companies this year include - Professional Services (24%), Wholesale & Retail (12%) , Social and Personal Services (10%) and IT (9%).

These new companies are part of the reason that 9,942 individuals become directors of an Irish company for the first time so far this year.

61% of these individuals are male and 39% are female.
