Quarter 3 of this year saw a combined total of 9,233 company and business start-ups, an impressive average of 100 per day.

Insolvencies
501 individual companies were declared insolvent in the third quarter of 2012, an average of approximately 5 per day.
42% of these companies were located in Dublin. The other counties worst affected included Limerick, Cork, Meath and Galway who, between them, accounted for another 23% of company insolvencies during the quarter.
291 Irish companies held a meeting of creditors during the third quarter of this year. This figure is down 14% on the same period in 2011 (338).
According to their latest filed financial accounts, these 291 companies owed their creditors just over €95m.
Company Start-Ups vs. Closures
Having compiled the statistics for the first 9 months of 2012 we have found that company closures exceed start-ups by approximately 2%.
During the period, 10,433 companies began trading while 10,643 were dissolved. Companies in the professional services, construction, wholesale & retail, real estate, social and personal services and manufacturing sectors make up 72% of the closures recorded this year.
